My Story

I grew up in Western Mass, and spent my summers on Cape Cod. To say I’m obsessed with old photographs is an understatement— this is a historic image of my grandparent’s house. Every time I look at it I feel my childhood: running down the hill between the big barn and little barn, watching my grandmother hang out laundry to dry, long days at the pond, going to the go-carts and playing mini golf, and eating endless peanut butter and fluff sandwiches. When they purchased this property, the once manicured bog was a thriving pond with tall trees between the yard and water’s edge. My grandfather would use the big barn for storage (and puttering/ tinkering) and and I would often go in and look around to see the giant cranberry processing machinery and wheels against the walls. I can still smell the sweet, dark, damp, moldy air… a very classic old Cape home smell.

Cape Cod summers were my favorite. Back 30 years ago it felt like we were going to the country— a 3 hour drive to the middle of nowhere. We didn’t watch tv, there was no AC, and I would walk around the tall grass out back to the property’s edge to visit two horse in the big field next door. Summers were dreamy, quiet, and filled with nature, reading and endless daydreaming…

Over 2 decades later I’m living on the Cape year-round and my studio is 1 mile from this same summer house.
